Not only chocolate....Antica Dolceria Bonajuto

Antica Dolceria Bonajuto is famous all over the world for their top quality traditional chocolate, but I can assure you that anything that comes out of that corner of Modica Bassa is simply a bite into heaven.
Besides chocolate, people also know their wonderful nougat, almond biscuits and other great products that they can ship around the globe. But often miss their traditional patisserie, cannoli, cakes, rice crispelle, liccumie (with an eggplant and chocolate filling) and the so called "Teste di turco" (Turkish heads) that you can only enjoy in their shop in Modica.
Last week, I got a Testa di Turco to share with my family for our Sunday lunch, it was amazing!
The whole process was quite emotional. I went in with my daughter to get it and this immediately reminded me of the times I used to go there with my granddad on a Sunday morning while the rest of the family was waiting for us in Via Ritiro 7. I would play around the dolceria and my grandfather talked to Pierpaolo Ruta's grandfather while the guys filled this huge bigné shaped like a Turkish turban with luscious sweet ricotta cream.
Needless to say that once I got back home and we ate it, the taste did the rest. A jump into memory lane, or perhaps being in Modica I should say "memory steps" ;)!
If you ever come to Modica and visit Antica Dolceria Bonajuto, do not miss the chance to try it.
