The Vendicari Nature Reserve covers a wide stretch of the coastline in the province of Siracusa and is a national park representing a pristine Mediterranean habitat. Its sandy soil and swampy areas have created a unique ecosystem attracting migratory birds like grey heron, white and black stork, little egret, black-backed, greater flamingo.
The best time of the year for birds watching is between November and March, in summer is a fantastic location to go for a swim. The flora includes wild thyme, prickly juniper, wild pistachio and rosemary.
