Nonna Elvira's galateo: etiquette advice

Every time I go through my grandmother's recipe books and notes I discover new elements that show my grandparents full care and respect for food.

For those of you who missed loveSicily on Gary Rhodes new TV series Rhodes Across Italy on the BBC Good Food Channel here is the video.

I met young Sous chef Clare Lanza in the centre of Modica and after a walk and a visit to Antica Dolceria Bonajuto we went to the cookery school and prepared "chocolate chicken" following my grandmother's recipe.

Via Ritiro N.7 Progress

Our long-term project of giving loveSicily a permanent location for our cookery courses has taken a huge step forward last week.

After a long 10 months that the house was covered in scaffolding most of it is now off. While there is still some way to go this was undoubtetly a symbolic moment. We chose an ash brown colour for the outside walls that fits with the character of the house and the historical centre of Modica. It is also, we think, a perfect match to the brass pipes and air passages.

Via Ritiro N.7 enters a new chapter of its life

Via Ritiro N.7 is an old family home in the centre of Modica. It's just a stone's throw away from the Theatre Garibaldi and opposite the imposing Chiesa di San Pietro, whose entrance is guarded by the statues of the 12 apostles.

We really don't know enough about the history of the house outside the last 70 years during which Katia's family have been living there. We hope to discover more about the house and its past inhabitants while we are restoring it. It has now passed to our care, and we hope to revive it to its former glory.
