From New Jersey to Ispica: Madonna del Carmine in Sicily

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

On the 16th of July I posted a picture of a procession of the Madonna del Carmine in New Jersey. Here are some pictures I took last night during the procession of the Madonna del Carmine in Ispica, a town in the Ragusa area. The procession started at 8pm and finished at 1am with big fireworks.
This is actually the only statue in Ispica that is taken in a procession on a car, as you can see in one of the pictures, while it is quite usual to have a car with speakers following the processions so that everyone can hear the priest preaching as you can see in another of the pictures.
La Madonna del Carmine is Ispica's patron saint and the relative church is a beautiful small baroque jewel in the old neighbourhood of the town near the archeological area and the canions of Cava d'Ispica.
