Antica Dolceria Bonajuto in English

We just heard from our friends at Antica Dolceria Bonajuto about the launching of the new English version of their website.

It is enough for you to open a guide to Sicily or visit the Press Releases dedicated page on their website to realize the importance of the history and the current work of the Dolceria for the city of Modica and Sicilian food culture in general.

For me it is more about personal family history. Every Sunday we would go to my grandparents' home for lunch and before sitting around the table for a long family meal, my grandfather would take me down to the Dolceria to get us the usual family Sunday's treat.
There was a great choice of wonderful sweets and every season had its special ones: "torroni" and "cubaita" for Christmas, "friteddi ri risu" around Saint Joseph day, "Agnellini di pasta reale" for Easter....and "cannoli" and "teste di turco" in winter and "pezzi duri" and "zuccotti" in summer. Back then the Dolceria also worked as a Bar, I still remember the pale green tables outside and there are still Modicani who cannot forget Bonajuto's "granite", coffee and cream was my granddad favourite.

Old times nostalgia aside, thanks to the Ruta's family the Dolceria has managed a wonderful transition into the XXI century, combining a remarkable faith to tradition with research and innovation.

On the website you find information regarding the history of the Bonajuto family and the Dolceria, about Modica's traditional chocolate with reference to its special production technique and a list of other wonderful products they make such as "aranciata", "cedrata", "'mpanatigghi", "torroni", "nucatoli", "cobaita", etc..

A stop at the Antica Dolceria Bonajuto is never missing in our cookery holiday programme and it is just great news to know that people can now go back home and visit the website for more insights, send a link to their friends to show them what they have seen and tasted, and more importantly, order further supplies.

Considering that this week marks the anniversary of the landing of the Allied forces in Sicily during WWII, here is a great related commercial of the Antica Dolceria Bonajuto that you will definitely enjoy.
